What’s on this Weekend: 15th 16th September

Where is the time going, we are all ready approaching mid September?  It only feels like yesterday we got back from our summer holidays and yet we are about to head into the second half of the month.

Well time is certainly running out to make the most of the mild weather and the number of major outdoor events and attractions is definitely dropping, so here are some things to look out for this weekend (15th & 16th September 2012).  If you are going out for the weekend why not tell us where by adding a comment below.

This is one of the last weekends of country and county shows in the UK and Ireland so it’s one of your last chances to get out and enjoy a fun family day out. Here are some to check out:

The cycling Tour of Britain concludes this weekend with stages from Barnstaple to Dartmouth and the concluding stage in the Guildford area.

Of course many of the UK’s holiday attractions are still open, check out our attraction list. In addition, many of the lovely British and Irish Gardens are still open to the public so if you want to see the last of the summer planting before Autumn sets in and changes the colours and views make a bee line to them this weekend.

So what are you doing, what else should be on our list?

Great Yorkshire Show 2012 Cancelled Due to Weather

Sad news… The Great Yorkshire Show, one of the UK’s leading county and agricultural Shows has been cancelled because of the unprecedented rain in recent weeks and months that have left the car parks unsafe to use.

The Great Yorkshire Show team have said “this is a heartbreaking decision for everyone who loves the Great Yorkshire Show and is involved in making it so special.  Refunds will be issued for visitors who have bought tickets in advance, please send your tickets back to us with your name and address and we will organise refunds as soon as we can. Or alternatively you can keep the tickets and use them for the 2013 Great Yorkshire Show.”

Although we like thousands of others are hugely disappointed, we wish the Great Yorkshire Show team all the best AND we look forward to seeing the Show bigger and better than ever in 2013.

Ignore those Weather Grumbles, Enjoy a Fabulous British Holiday

If you have been watching the British news or coverage of the UK’s major sporting and social events so far this year you may well have the impression that the weather is grey, wet, dreary and not the place for your Summer holiday, BUT THIS IS NOT TRUE.

It’s certainly true that us Brits are obsessed with the weather, it’s our number one discussion point, we can’t help it.  And, in our defence the British climate can be a little less than predictable which makes trying to forecast it a national pastime.

It’s fair to say that, so far this summer, we have had more than our normal share of wet days but to think that every day is grey and raining would be to misunderstand the British habit of talking the weather down.  There are very few days that are a complete wash out and so in practice even on the worst days it’s a case of dodging the worst of the showers/downpours and then making the most of the dry moments.

So far this year we have been at the Diamond Jubilee, Olympic Torch Relay, South of England Show, Goodwood Festival of Speed, Cinema in Preston Park (Brighton) and many other outdoor events and at each we have been bathed in sunshine – even getting sun burnt at Goodwood!

So while the weather may not be baking hot at the moment that doesn’t mean you can’t get out and enjoy everything the UK has to offer.  What’s more, this is a great time of year with so much to do and see. Wimbledon may be over but The Open Golf Championship and Glorious Goodwood are just around the corner with the Olympics only weeks away.

Aside from these major events there are countless County and Agricultural Shows to enjoy, hundreds of British gardens are open to visits during the summer and of course all of our major attractions, including many indoor attractions, from the Eden Project to the Tower of London will be a brilliant day out for young and old.

So what’s stopping you?  If you are looking for a Great British holiday, short break or weekend break get booking now while there is still some great self catering accommodation available.

Great Yorkshire Show Nearly Here – time running out to save with advanced tickets

The Great Yorkshire Show is fast approaching with the first day on Tuesday the 10th July which means there is not much time left if you want to save money on tickets by buying them in advance (closes 4th July).

This year the Show welcomes the Yorkshire Regiment (1st Battalion) who will exercise the Freedom of Harrogate in their Homecoming Parade at the Great Yorkshire Show on Tuesday 10 July.  185 soldiers are expected to march around the Main Ring in combat dress after recently returning from Afghanistan and this will be a brilliant site at the Showground.

The Great Yorkshire Show is England’s premier agricultural Show, held near Harrogate, so it’s a great family day out with so much to do and see including arts and crafts, competitions, cookery, livestock, hounds, rural country pursuits the list goes on and on.

If you are going to take in the Show on a short break or while on holiday we have some excellent self catering cottages, apartments and holiday flats in the Harrogate and Yorkshire region that would be perfect.

Find out more the Show, where to buy advanced tickets and some self catering holiday homes.
